John Warrender died from wounds on 2nd October, 1916 but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 7th South Staffordshire battalion was part of 33 Brigade,  11th Division, that had been in action during the Battle of the Somme in the summer and autumn of 1916 most recently on 30th September at the end of the Battle of Morval when, after hard fighting they had driven the enemy from Hessian Trench
